NOTE: EfM registration has ended. We will meet every Thursday, from 6 to 8:30 pm, starting Oct. 3rd. Meeting location TBA.

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four year course of study for lay people designed to develop a deeper understanding of scripture and a stronger ability to think theologically. Each “year” is a nine-month cycle of study. Participants enroll for one cycle at a time. Completion of all four years is up to each individual.

The four year curriculum covers the entire sweep of the Christian tradition from the earliest period to the present:

  • Year One: Old Testament
  • Year Two: New Testament
  • Year Three: Church History
  • Year Four: Theology

The EfM seminar group provides the spiritual community in which to study, pray, and reflect. Each seminar group consists of six to twelve participants and a trained mentor who meet weekly over the course of a nine-month academic year. These meetings are usually two and a half hours in length. Preparation for Seminar is guided by the EfM Reading and Reflection Guide (RRG), which includes weekly reading assignments and focus activities. Seminar preparation time is at least 3 hours per week.

For this term of EfM, the start date will be sometime in mid to late September on either a Tuesday or Thursday (specific weekday and start date TBD). The tuition per year is $375 (which includes the RRG and all reading materials). A limited amount of tuition support is available for those in need of financial assistance.
